Description

GENERAL

On Mount Genesis, near the village of Engares, in NW Naxos, there may have been a cave sanctuary dedicated to the Nymphs.


MONUMENTS

Unidentified as yet.  At the end of the 19th c. A.C. signs of former use wer noted inside the Byzantine church, which lies at the top of the mountain. Unfortunately these signs today are not visible.

IDENTIFICATION

The existence of the cave sanctuary is known by epigraphical evidence (IG XII, 5. 53).
