Description

GENERAL

At the NW of the village Kargadoura, in the east of the bay of Naousa and opposite the island Viokastro, architectural remains interpreted as part of a sanctuary have been reported.


 

MONUMENTS

The walls, discovered at the site, may belong to a peribolos or a terrace. Originally it was believed that they were part of a temple. At its inner part another wall and stone blocks, possibly of an altar were discovered.

CHRONOLOGY

The sherds date to the early 5th c.


 

IDENTIFICATION

No evidence on the nature of the cult or the name of the recipient is available. It has been suggested, however, (Rubensohn) that it may have been a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon.
