GENERAL
At the Lower Town of the fortified settlement of Minoa has been discovered a cult place. Minoa lies on the hill of Moundoulia, which overlooks the bay of modern Katapola, in the middle of the SW coast of the island.
MONUMENTS
A cult building could perhaps be recognised in the rock cuttings of the Lower Town of Minoa, in the area which was later occupied by a Hellenistic sanctuary. In trenches Δl -v l, NΔ/1, NΔ/3 and NΔ/4 has been discovered an assemblage which consisted of a peribolos wall (Wall 4), a rectangular structure (Walls 1-3) and a deposit.
MOVABLE FINDS: VOTIVE OFFERINGS & CULT EQUIPMENT
Among the finds, clay vessels, metal objects, animal bones and mollusks.
CHRONOLOGY
The finds date from the Late Protogeometric Period until the Early Archaic Period.
IDENTIFICATION
The cult recipient has not been identified.
