GENERAL
Poiiessa (Ποιήεσσα) is located at the SW coast of the island. The cult of Apollo Pythios, of Hermes and of Bakcheios Dionysus are attested by epigraphic evidence.
MONUMENTS
There is no record for architectural remains related to the cult of Apollo or Hermes. Inside the church of Panaghia Sotiriou decrees mentioning the name of Apollo Pythios have been found. A votive inscription records the name of Hermes. An inscription mentions the existence of a Bakcheiion.
CHRONOLOGY
Both the degrees and the votive inscription date to the 5th c. BC. The inscription, recording Dionysus Bakcheios, dates to the Classical period.
